Ureteroscopy
1 During change of JJ stents in patients with chronic conditions necessitating long-term stent placements, firstly always attempt to pass a guidewire alongside the existing stent which acts as a ‘road map’. Resist the temptation to pull the existing stent prior to guidewire passage as it may be difficult to identify the ureteric orifice in the presence of marked stent-related inflammation around the ureteric orifice.
2 Always ensure that patients undergoing upper tract endoscopy have preoperative negative voided urine culture to minimise septic complications. Always use antibiotic prophylaxis appropriate to the local guidelines
