^aHepatitis A, hepatitis B, meningococcal, pneumococcal, and varicella vaccines are not universally recommended. Specific recommendations regarding these vaccines are listed below:

• Hepatitis A vaccine is recommended for persons with chronic liver disease, receive clotting factor concentrates, travel to high or intermediate endemic area, use illicit drugs, or men who have sex with men.

• Hepatitis B vaccine is recommended for persons with diabetes younger than age 60 years, end-stage renal disease, HIV infection, or chronic liver disease; healthcare personnel at risk of exposure to blood or other infectious body fluids; clients and staff of institutions for persons with developmental disabilities; persons at risk of sexually transmitted disease including those not in a monogamous relationship and men who have sex with men; current or recent injection drug users; household contacts and sex partners of hepatitis B surface antigen-positive persons; and international travelers to countries with high or intermediate prevalence of chronic HBV infection.
