4 Remember the course of the ureter. This initially traverses laterally and posterior before curving medially and anterior over the pelvic brim. Finally, it traverses posterior and lateral again up to the renal pelvis. It may be necessary to use a second wire to cross the pelvic brim (Figure 71.2).

5 Keep the irrigation as slow as possible to avoid retropulsion of any stone back into the kidney.
