Anatomy
 Retroperitoneal, between L4-5 spine
 
 Arterial supply: gastroduodenal, SMA, splenic; Venous drainage: portal & splenic; Nerves: vagal (stimulatory), sympathetic (inhibitory)
 
 Note thrombosis of the splenic vein causes the splenic blood to drain through the short gastric veins which results in gastric varices

 Endocrine pancreas:
 
 Islet cells produce insulin, glucagon, pancreatic polypeptide and somatostatin
