Changing a difficult or encrusted suprapubic catheter
I have found this useful for obese female patients with a blocked or heavily encrusted catheter that doesn’t budge when pulled prior to changing it. I have, on occasion, also done this for the morbidly obese patient with a contracted bladder (the clue being that they may well have needed an open suprapubic insertion in the first place) where there is a chance that the tract may be lost easily.
