In this video, we demonstrate an alternate approach to sigmoid mobilization. A lateral-to-medial approach more closely mimics the open approach to sigmoid mobilization. It may be useful laparoscopically in cases of previous radiation, procedures, abscess, or difficulties completing the dissection from the medial-to-lateral approach. This video demonstrates the lateral dissection along the line of Toldt to the splenic flexure, clearly identifying the ureter, plane between the mesentery and retroperitoneal, then meeting of the medial and lateral dissection planes.
